Banana – Blue Java

Please note due to the awkward size of banana plants these are pickup only. We may be able to ship bare rooted plants but please get in touch before purchasing if you would like delivery. 

Blue Java is a large sized banana that tastes similar to supermarket fruit. It doesn’t taste like ice cream but is worth planting if you have the space.

The bananas have an impressive blue hue prior to ripening yellow like an ordinary banana. Photos of them online are often edited to make them appear a deeper blue but is still impressive to see.

Described as an “ice cream banana” is probably a bit rich, but while not the most flavourful variety, they have an enjoyable mild flavour.

It is reported to be slightly more cold hardy than some other bananas, such as the Cavendish.
