Description
The chilean wine palm (Jubaea chilensis) is highly ornamental and can, very slowly, grow to be quote large if allowed.
They produce what is known as a chilean coconut, which is essentially an edible and tasty small coconut. It’s about as close as we can get to the real thing in NZ, albeit much smaller.
Known as the wine palm because the trunk can be tapped to make wine, but this involves killing the tree so it would probably be best to just eat the mini coconuts.
These plants are approx. 5 years old and ready to be planted out or put in a new container. Shipped plants may need their leaves folded down but this will not cause any permanent harm to the plant.
