Casimiroa, also known as white sapote, is an underrated subtropical fruit which has the taste and consistency of custard. It is also quite hardy and vigorous, doing well outdoors in most of the North Island.

The taste is unique so it is hard to describe, but we would say the Wiki Woo variety is sweet, creamy, custard-like with a hint of banana/peach. The flesh has a mild yellow colour and the flavour is stronger than many other types (Suebelle, Te Puna, etc).

This plant is grafted and at least a couple years old. Seedlings can take a very long time to fruit and often do not grow true to type. We recommend growing two varieties for pollination – while they seem to be self-fertile, two plants can greatly increase fruit production.

They appear to tolerate most soil types and (in our experience) have been quite forgiving of less than perfect draining soil, which quickly killed our avocados. Seedling trees can grow huge, but you can comfortably keep grafted trees like this one at 2-3m high.
