Description
This listing is for a 6-month+ old longan seedling from the Biew Kiew variety, originating from Thailand and known for being highly productive with a firm sweet flesh and little seed (excellent flesh/seed ratio). They are also said to be more suitable for subtropical climates than other types. While seedlings may not grow true to type they generally retain some of the parent tree characteristics.
You will receive a plant at least the same size as the example pictured. Plants may have very minor cosmetic imperfections (mild tip burn, odd insect bite etc).
It is suited to growing in most of the North Island in the ground or elsewhere in a container, provided it is frost-free and well-draining. Longans are less tropical than their lychee cousin and fruit more readily in New Zealand. There are various fruiting trees scattered around. Do note that it can take 6+ years on average for seedling trees to fruit, but they are worth the wait and highly ornamental as well.
