The Cherry of Rio Grande (eugenia involucrata) is a highly ornamental tree/shrub that produces very tasty fruit described as tasting somewhere between a cherry and a plum. It is cold hardy down to -6c and a heavy producer, quite suitable to New Zealand growing in most places. Fruiting usually begins within 3-5 years by which time it can be quite productive but can sometimes take longer.

This seedling is quite small but healthy and definitely sturdy enough to be shipped anywhere in the country. This plant is grown from the imported seed of a large and black fruit. The first photo is of what you can expect when the plant begins fruiting and the second is of a seedling highly similar to what you will receive.
